May 12th 2018 is International Fibromyalgia Awareness Day.
Fibromyalgia is a chronic pain disorder that affects people physically, mentally and socially. Symptoms of Fibromyalgia include;
- Widespread chronic pain
- Sleep disturbances
- Psychological distress
These symptoms can often interfere and have an effect on every day life for the sufferer.
Can Pilates help with Fibromyalgia
The answer is YES!! and Pilates comes highly recommended by many experts on these conditions, including the National Fibromyalgia Association.
This is a condition that causes physical pain in the body, as it changes the way the body’s pain receptors work. The condition can also cause low moods, tiredness, memory impairment and mood swings.
Similarly to Osteoporosis, Pilates can benefit the physical and mental wellbeing of those affected. It allows the muscles to be stretched and relaxed, helping eliminate pain. This then leads to a better mood and will help make it easier for sufferers to move around and do things such as get out of bed on their own, walk up stairs, and generally be more active. This will in turn make them happier as they will be more free to do things that they previously couldn’t.
If you are somewhat active and don’t have high levels of stiff joints and muscles, Pilates could be the next step for you in improving your strength and overall fitness level.

I am currently offering FREE Pilates classes for those that would really like to try Pilates but not sure what to expect. The class is suitable for all levels and I am fully qualified to teach those that suffer with aches and pains.
